SIRKAM (Women’s Creative Circulation) is a community and collective zine engaged in arts and women’s literacy in Medan and Sumatra. Sirkam literally means a small comb that is used as a decorative or a hair clip. It is used by both aristocratic and proletariat women throughout history; it has a tightly knit, solid structure for hair support. It was in this spirit that the collective was founded; to be a space capable of supporting all women’s creative thinking from different walks of life, particularly in arts and literature. SIRKAM envisions itself as a platform for women to create freely, develop perspectives and potentials, and channel their voice under principles of humanity, equality and collective work.
